by Pers Alarcon I am supposed to pay $200,000 for my current mortgage in order to pay this off. I am only 10 years away from retirement and I just inherited $350,000. Do I lose my tax deduction if I pay off my mortgage earlier? My client, Jimmy Smith, asked me this question last week. While you can come up with a decision pretty easily, investing your money while the market is not doing well is something you would have to reconsider, especially if you want a large nest egg in retirement.
